Up until now, I have kept a personal and a professional journal (this one) - but since only being held accountable to the public one, I’ve slacked on the private. Not that ZAO posts don’t reflect the real me, but here goes my first attempt at bringing a more soul-baring perspective to my entries. After all, ZAO is not just work; it is my life…so chances are, anything personal will likely relate to my work too. Obviously the really personal things - especially those that implicate others close to me - will never be mentioned in great detail here, so let’s start with some goals I’ve set to be more productive going forward.

Sacrifice for the Stories

Though nearly 2 years have elapsed since embarking on this journey, I still regularly get approached for the story behind how and why I chose this path over others I once seriously considered: medicine or finance. Friends who are realizing now that they don’t like their jobs want to quit and try something new, but don’t know where to start. Where does passion lie, how does a dream come about? At what point does pragmatism trump fanciful pursuit of the unfamiliar? Is having a story to tell really worth all of it?
