One of the perks of running your own startup is the freedom that comes with it. Everything goes. Working in al fresco cafe while sipping wine in the afternoon, setting up Skype meetings in bed, discussing collaboration opportunities over a polo match, turning happy hour drinks with potential clients into an impromptu bar crawl, turning designers meetings into window shopping sprees… you get the (awesome) picture. As long as you get the job done, it doesn’t really matter how or where you do it.

Having a good laugh with my friend and celebrity stylist Dave Azawi at Shots Cafe on Club Street while trying on Ade.G’s quartz and chain necklaces.

First time in Chinatown’s Night Market. Was calmer and way cleaner than the night markets I’ve been to in Hong Kong, Seoul and Taipei.

Restored shophouses in Chinatown. Many shophouses were demolished in the 60s and 70s as part of Singapore’s modernization but some still remain scattered across Singapore.
Yesterday was the perfect example of how flexible startup life can be. I set up my meetings in Chinatown as I wanted to explore Ann Siang Hill and Club Street (both hip areas in Singapore that are home to boutique stores, concept shops, restaurants and bars). Between meetings, I was able to catch up on reading, try out two new cafes and explore the neighborhood. As I walked through the Chinatown Night Market towards the MRT station, I found myself enveloped with contentment. To be able to do what I love and am passionate about has got to be one of the best feelings in the world. I don’t understand how people can stick to their 9 to 5 jobs when they are so miserable. I can’t imagine ever going back to the corporate world.
That’s all my thoughts for tonight. Till tomorrow!
xx Ling
