How would you describe your style in 3 words?
Versatile, edgy and relaxed
Do your designs reflect your personal style?
For most of the designs, we go for fabrication that is soft and light in order to obtain a gentle look that flaunts a women’s femininity while throwing in an unexpected hard edge by including unique construction in the details. Based on loose, relaxed silhouettes, our designs offers enhanced mobility for active women on the go while maintaining comfort throughout the day. Key components of the designs are pragmatic, versatile and creative.
What types of materials do you use for your jewelry and why?
We use different kinds of yarns and stainless steel for our accessories. We use soft and light yarns on the ropes to obtain a gentle look while throwing in an unexpected edginess by including hardwares such as nuts and bolts.
Can you share the design process of your jewelry with us.
First we choose the colors that is suitable to our theme, next we start to explore and experiment with different of materials and knots. Even the numbers of hardware we use is important as we do not wish to design anything that is too heavy for customers.
Tell us about your favorite piece.
I'd say its the piece called 'Sojourn'. It has a story behind it. It started with my 2 friends from NAFA (Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts). we came together and designed this piece together for our graduation collection called 'Sojourn'. This piece is specially named after our graduation collection and is dedicated to our friendship.
What sort of creative challenges have you faced?
I think what is challenging is when you have to balance between creativity and business ambition. We have to constantly design products that suit the market, trend and our customers. I get demoralized sometimes when you get mind blocked, stressed or when I didn't meet my expectation. But I have learnt to stay focus, motivated and most importantly believe in yourself and never give up.
What's next for your brand?
This season's collection has been deeply inspired by the uncompromised beauty and eclectic life of surrealist artist Frida Kahlo. The collection is artisan led (a lot of handcraft), colourful, beautiful and surreal. The strong woman is showcased in the strong prints and color combinations. There is also a romantic essence to the line, extracted from the colorful part of Mexico. Ecru, dusty pink, and purple make the mood very 70s vibrant.
Frida Kahlo (July 6, 1907 July 13, 1954) was a
Mexican painter, who painted using vibrant colors in a style that was
influenced by indigenous cultures of Mexico and European influences including
Realism, Symbolism, and Surrealism. Many of her works are self-portraits that
symbolically articulate her own pain. Kahlo was married to Mexican muralist
Diego Rivera.
