life has been on fast forward mode.
| Much needed coffee break. |
sitting at a cute coffee shop on hollywood road right now waiting for our 4pm meeting. taking a moment to reflect on our startup journey. it's been a great learning experience. it's stressful working 25 hours a day, running on empty & 5 hours of sleep, constantly worrying about how things are going to turn out... but it's also fulfilling when you try to do all you can to realize your dream. starting your own company has its perks but it's not for everyone. if you are considering venturing out on your own, think very carefully why you want to do it. if you're bored with life, sick of your job, out of a job, don't see starting your own company as an "easy solution". it is anything but easy. it's challenging and frustrating. if you don't have great support from friends and family, it makes it that much harder. finding the right business partner isn't easy either. starting a company is like entering a marriage. they say you should never pick a good friend to be your roommate or business partner. guess i broke the first rule. but vicky and i make a compatible duo not just because we come from different industries, backgrounds and have different skill sets, we also have different social circles, which overlaps slightly if at all. i think the latter makes a huge difference as it gives us time to recharge away from each other, a very important point. you do need to take time, even if it's 15 mins, to just zone on and rest.
speaking of which, i'm going to italy tomorrow for a wedding. the excitement hasn't hit me yet but it will when i rush home to pack after our next meeting. the last time i went on a holiday was in 2008! at my first job, it became a bad habit of mine to take a day off every month. i'd fly back to singapore to see my family or travel somewhere close by like thailand. i'm really looking forward to adopting the italian lifestyle for 10 days: taking long siestas, indulging in pizza & gelato and drinking copious amounts of vino. but knowing the worry wart in me, i'll be obsessing over when i can check my emails to make sure im updated with everything that is going on. check back soon for photos when i return!
very excited to see where this startup will lead to. i sincerely wish you two the best, i think what you both are trying to accomplish is incredible. try and feature as many asian designers as possible!
