while both taiwanese-americans at harvard and only one class apart, i unfortunately cannot purport to be BFFs with jlin. but that doesn't mean LINSANITY isn't just as inspiring to me as it is to young Asian boys like our team techie, who proudly displays his jersey below.
i thought of this now, as i shuffled through my mail and came across this letter from home.
back in february when i quit my job (shortly after jlin hit the winning 3-ptr @ toronto against the raptors) my mother had a hard time accepting and generally supporting my decision. phone calls would start off pleasantly but disintegrate into shouting, skype vidchats would devolve into tears. after one particularly huge blow-out, i received this email.

didn't know my worry make you so upset. I will try to no-worry. I will try to be like jeremy lin mom, let you play basketball!
love,
mom
since then, all interactions have been of tacit support, but i know that my mother is my biggest cheerleader. and that, friends, is why a basketball-playing hello kitty on a sticker saying "go team!" just made my day.
